Folkestone 18 Park House 15
Folkestone sealed back-to-back league wins for the first time since the opening week of the season to all but end any fears of relegation with six games remaining.
Dan Sangiuseppe scored two early tries and another before half-time from Will Turner gave Folkestone enough of a cushion to hold off a second-half fight-back from Park House.
The hosts made a fast start, opening the scoring within two minutes of the start. Richard Lama punched a big hole through the visitor’s defence and shipped the ball out for Sangiuseppe to dive over.
Folkestone momentarily switched to standby mode and Park House took advantage with their own good play to level the match at 5-5 a few minutes later.
A breathless opening then saw the Stones re-take the lead. Scrum-half Joe Hull threw a superb pass to Sangiuseppe, who finished well out wide. Chris Petley, troubled by a swirling wind, missed his second conversion attempt.
Near the end of the first-half a Park House player was penalised for an off the ball tackle as Folkestone surged towards the try line. The home side kicked the ball to touch and from the line-out Turner caught the ball and led his pack over the line for a 15-5 half-time lead.
Petley kicked a penalty to stretch the lead to 13 points early in the second-half, but despite playing with the wind Folkestone came to a halt.
As in the previous week against Medway, Folkestone’s organisation fell apart and clever grubber kicks by the visitors twice put them in on the left wing to score easy tries.
Folkestone hung on to the final whistle, giving them a second successive win to take into this weekend’s game against Gosport & Fareham in the regional semi-final of the Senior Vase.
