Pupil at primary school diagnosed with swine flu

Bosses at a primary school in Medway have vowed to stay open after a pupil was diagnosed with swine flu, Yourmedway reports.

Parents of children at St Andrews in Rochester received letters last week revealing the boy had contracted the illness and two others had been showing flu-like symptoms.

All three pupils are recovering at home and the school’s head has vowed to work closely with Government health chiefs.

Principal Joan Jabbour told parents: “All household and close contacts have been identified and been given anti-viral preventative treatment.

"Only individuals who have been in prolonged close contact with a case have an increased risk of developing the illness.

“At present, I have been advised that there is no need to close the school.

"However, I will keep monitoring the situation and review this on a regular basis.
